Halloween candies!

We all know this time of year is like Christmas: it's meant for family enjoyment, playing games with the little ones, and... eating sweets.

It's true that the candies, treats, and gummies being sold are loaded with sugar. We're not saying you should stop buying them - we know it's once a year. Still, we like to think that society is evolving, and we're becoming more aware of what we eat.

It's not about devouring sweets like there's no tomorrow during this season, but rather not making them the centerpiece of the party. How about being able to cook up some homemade treats with your friends or kids?

Not only would we be making a healthier version of sweets, but we'd also have a fun activity to do together.

Today, we've got several ideas for you:

  • The Fruit Monster

It might sound silly, but if we decorate fruits with chocolate, devilish eyes, and imagination, you can come up with things as fun as this.

2. Devilish Eyes: Ingredients:

  • For the pupils: a handful of blueberries

  • For the iris: neutral gelatin, puree of blueberries and frozen strawberries

  • For the white: neutral gelatin, coconut milk or yogurt

  • Round ice trays

Preparation:

  • Crush the blueberries with the strawberries to get a homogeneous puree.

  • Add the gelatin to the mix.

  • Stir until it dissolves well and becomes jelly-like.

  • Place the blueberries at the bottom of the round ice trays (they'll be the pupils).

  • Then add the gelatin we created.

  • Refrigerate this to let the gelatin harden.

  • Meanwhile, make the white gelatin just like the red one for the iris, then add it to the ice trays.

  • Refrigerate for a while until everything sets, and you've got your devilish eyes.

3. Fingers

Ingredients: 60g of oat flour, 20g of ground almonds, 5-6 dates, a tablespoon of cinnamon, and baking powder.

Preheat the oven to 180ºC, then place the pitted dates previously softened in warm water. After 15 minutes, remove the dates from the water and blend them with a tablespoon of soaking water until you get a paste. Transfer this paste to a bowl, add the rest of the ingredients, and knead until you get a homogeneous dough. Take portions of the dough and shape them like fingers. At the tip of each finger, place an almond to simulate the nail. Place them on a tray and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden!

Don't forget that maintaining a balanced diet is the most important thing in any season, so add your homemade treats to your weekly menu!
